CFC President Jamie Manson on Crooked Media’s “Hysteria” Podcast

On Thursday, December 7, Catholics for Choice President Jamie Manson appeared on an episode of Hysteria — a perennially popular Crooked Media podcast hosted by political commentator and comedy writer Erin Ryan and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco that explores news, politics, trends, and culture impacting the lives of women.
It was a fabulously engaging conversation that covered subjects ranging from the work of Catholics for Choice and Jamie’s decades of gender justice and LGBTQIA+ advocacy in the Catholic church to the importance of centering religious voices in the reproductive rights movement to whether or not Pope Francis ever laughs.
But the topic that seems to have resonated most strongly with Erin and Alyssa was when Jamie brought up CFC’s efforts to raise awareness about the Christmas season’s unsung pro-choice hero: Mary! At the Annunciation, when Mary was told about bearing the Son of God, she was given the opportunity to say yes, “let it be so.” And as Jamie said, “what [all] women are asking for is what Mary had, too: the right to have a choice.”
