Catholics for Choice Statement on the 2024 Ballot Initiative Results
WASHINGTON — Catholics for Choice, which uplifts and amplifies the voices of the majority of Catholics who believe in reproductive freedom, issued the following statement from Stephanie Hanson-Quintana, Director of Organizing and Movement Building, in response to the 2024 abortion ballot initiative results:
“Once again, Catholics proved that the majority support abortion access. I am so pleased for the Catholics for Choice advocates whose hard work affirmed reproductive freedom at the ballot box. In at least 7 of 10 states, our efforts to turn out the pro-choice majority proved successful, even though in Florida, a 57% majority was not enough to overcome their partisan and extreme abortion ban.
“I am so proud of our advocates, who gave their all this election to mobilize and organize pro-choice Catholics and answer Catholic Social Teaching’s call to participation. Their dedication is a reminder of how we can work together to help build a stronger democracy, even when more work lies ahead. We at Catholics for Choice are ready to go into 2025 to ensure the implementation of these ballot amendments and ensure that federal legislation does not take away these democratic wins.”
