Catholics for Choice Statement on the Nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services
WASHINGTON — Catholics for Choice, which uplifts and amplifies the voices of the majority of Catholics who believe in reproductive freedom, issued the following statement from Christopher Wimbush, Interim President, on today’s news that President-Elect Trump will nominate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to lead the Department of Health and Human Services:
“The last thing the United States needs is another white, cisgender, Catholic man interfering with the healthcare decisions of Americans nationwide.
“By appointing Kennedy to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, President-Elect Trump shows just how willing he is to ignore the health and wellbeing of those already left behind by our government. I believe Kennedy’s attacks on the FDA, CDC, and NIH have and will put people’s lives in danger.
“When his confirmation hearing occurs, we hope senators will look closely at his inconsistent record on abortion rights and remember that most voters — including those who voted for President-Elect Trump — support abortion and oppose further federal attempts to restrict access.”
