40 Days of Accompaniment: Week 2
One of the most important aspects of owning your pro-choice Catholicism is realizing that you are not alone. So, as we enter the second week of Lent and our 40 Days of Accompaniment journey, I’m excited to share our next action with you.
Sign our “I Am a Catholic for Choice” Pledge today.
By signing this pledge, you’re joining the faithful majority of current Catholics, former Catholics, and co-conspirators to say, “I support abortion access because of my beliefs, not in spite of them.”
If you’ve already signed the pledge, we have an action for you, too!
I’m not kidding when I say I leave our pledge cards everywhere I go — I keep them in my bag and tuck them into the pews after Mass. Let me explain why.
During the passing of the peace, when I share smiles with all those around me, I think of how many have had abortions or identify as pro-choice. I know that pro-choice Catholics fill the pews but have been intimidated into silence by people who use faith to shame others. The truth is, pro-choice Catholics are just as faithful.
The season of Lent calls us to look toward our communities — our families, our parishes, and our online connections to encounter and embolden one another.
By leaving a Catholics for Choice pledge card after Mass, I encounter those who feel alone because of the church hierarchy or the so-called “40 Days for Life.” Knowing that a pledge card in the pew could embolden even just one pro-choice Catholic fills my soul with joy.
And I hope you feel the same way.
So, please, sign our “I Am a Catholic for Choice” Pledge today.
Then order free pledge cards to distribute in your community.
Thank you for joining us on this 40 Days of Accompaniment.
See you next week!
Peace,
Kate Hoeting, MTS
