Association of United States Catholic Priests Continues Push for Women Deacons

By Conscience January 11, 2018

At its 2017 assembly, held June 19–22 in Atlanta, the Association of United States Priests reaffirmed its support for the ordination of women deacons and the creation of “priestless” parishes. In July 2017, the association celebrated the appointment of Archbishop Luis Ladaria Ferrer of Spain to the head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, noting the Arbhishop Ferrer previously led the Vatican’s commission on women deacons. Joining with FutureChurch and Voice of the Faithful, the AUSCP launched “DeaconChat,” a campaign to educate parishioners on the topic of women deacons and to invite conversation with local clergy. The AUSCP is the largest association of priests in the United States.
